الولاء والبراء، الوَلَاء والبَرَاء

Loyalty and disavowal

حتى وصل إلى دار الإسلام في أرض الشام، و كانت أولى مراحله فيها هي المعسكر الشرعي الذي يُدرَّس فيه التوحيد الصافي والولاء و البراء

80:14

…until he reached the land of Islam in the Sham, where his initial period was in the Shariah Camp where pure tawheed and loyalty and disavowal are taught

“Al-Wala’ wa Al-Bara’” is a Salafi-Jihadi concept requiring compete loyalty to Islam and disavowal of all things and people associated with unbelief (الكُفْر) . As such, it is often written in transliterated form in related English-language literature.

The concept of البراء from unbelief and unbelievers is explained in an infographic at 171:12, while an article at 64:9 looks at how the life of the prophet Mohammed sets an example in that regard. 62:14 stresses the importance of الولاء و البراء in an article directed at a female audience.

The concept is frequently reiterated elsewhere in Al-Naba’, including in the martyr stories (قصة شهيد), as in the quotation above (others can be found in the stories in issues 74 and 159, for example). A video advertised at 9:12 carries the title الولاء و البراء , while another advertised at 10:12 targets the rulers of Saudi Arabia and is entitled ” آل سلول لا ولاء و لا براء “. An editorial at 332:3 titled “Our Battle with the Jews is Purely Islamic!” describes “Palestinian factions funded by Iran” as trying to “remove the Islamic quality from the fight in Palestine” and “strip the doctrine of Al-Wala’ wa Al-Bara’ from Muslim hearts”.
